SPF Northern Members top generosity tables
In statistical terms, we are used to Northern Constabulary consistently
topping tables in respect of detection rates and satisfaction surveys in
respect of policing. Our Members are aware of the high standards set in the
Force. We live in one of the safest places in the country. We have
phenomenal scenery in every beat we police. We face challenges unknown to
most Forces and are undoubtedly, individually and collectively, responsible
for the successful policing of the Highlands and Islands.
It therefore should come as no surprise to learn that our Members also top
the tables when it comes to supporting colleagues from across the county who
suffer accident, injury or illness either at work or elsewhere.
During those difficult times our colleagues need to know the 'police family'
is there for them, supports them and provides access to the best facilities
available. Those that have been to the Northern Police Convalescent and
Treatment Centres at Auchterarder and
Harrogate will be aware the facilities at these establishments more than
meet this criterion.
The NPC&TC is a registered charity and the Centres are owned in their
entirety by subscribing Members. They are not owned by Forces, Occupational
Health Units, Health Boards, Government, or any other body. Member
subscriptions pay for everything from maintenance of the buildings,
installation of the latest equipment to staff salaries; and without our
subscriptions these invaluable resources would be lost to the detriment of
all.
Latest figures released by the NPC&TC reveal that, whilst being on of the
smallest forces in terms of police numbers, Northern Member's subscription
rate to the charity has been consistently the highest for several years with
97.74 percent of Members currently subscribing. This is by some distance far
in excess of the national average of 74.39 percent. This incredible
subscription rate shows almost unprecedented support for the work of this
charity and is an indication of the phenomenal generosity of our Membership.
In addition to the NPC&TC, the St George's Police Trust
is a charity which assists with grants to
the dependants of police officers who have died or been wholly incapacitated
from earning a living. These grants are made 'to assist with support,
maintenance, education and advancement of life'.
Whilst it is difficult to imagine the difficulties such dependants face; and
thankfully the occasions on which the Charity has been called upon to assist
the dependants of our Members has been small, it is once more to the eternal
credit of our Members, that we are again at the forefront of support for
this charity.
The latest figures published show our Members have consistently topped the
tables for subscriptions for several years with the current subscription
rate at 97.87 percent of Members subscribing to support this incredibly
worthwhile charity. Again this almost unprecedented support exceeds by some
distance the national average of 63.12 percent.
Whilst each and every one of us hopes we never have to call upon the
facilities at either of the Convalescent Homes or on assistance from the St
Georges Police Trust, support for these charities is essential and it is to
our eternal credit that when it comes to such support we lead from the
front.
Whilst small in number, any non subscribing member wishing to further
enhance the reputation of Northern Members by subscribing to these charities
should contact the Secretary at the Federation Office.
Well done.
