“Public holiday” means Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and each of 6 other days, being so far as practicable local public holidays and in any year where Christmas Day, 26 th December or New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday the 6 other days shall be increased by 1 for each on which Christmas Day, 26 th December or New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
Guidance further provides that consideration should be given to allocating the additional public holidays at some other date within the festive period. The festive period might normally be defined as between mid-December and mid-January, however allocating additional days during the local school holidays is an important consideration.
